Cars creative director has a chilling theory why there’s no humans

Why don’t the ‘Cars’ movies feature any humans?

It looks as though there could be a rather chilling reason…

During an interview with ScreenCrush, creative director Jay Ward offered up his own theory on why there are no humans in the world of ‘Cars’. And it’s the stuff of nightmares.

“If you think about this, we have autonomous car technology coming in right now,” he explained. “It’s getting to the point where you can sit back in the car and it drives itself. Imagine in the near-future when the cars keep getting smarter and smarter and after one day they just go, ‘Why do we need human beings anymore? They’re just slowing us down. It’s just extra weight, let’s get rid of them’.”

That’s right – it’s a sentient AI uprising…

And that’s not all – it seems the cars might even steal their drivers’ souls.

“The car takes on the personality of the last person who drove it,” he said. “Whoa. There you go.”

It’s pretty shocking to think of the cars rising up against their human owners, turning on their creators and killing them in cold blood before taking on their personalities. Come to think of it, it sounds more like an episode of ‘Doctor Who’.

But then, this is nowhere near an official explanation.

As creepily cool as this sounds, it’s just Jay Ward’s own theory when it comes to the absence of humans in ‘Cars’. Still, it’s chilling enough to give us nightmares.

And we’ll definitely think twice about getting in a driverless car.

The best bit? He also explained why we never see inside the cars…

“You’ll never see the doors open,” he said. “Because the brain and the eyes are in there, we don’t want anything falling out of the side.”

Not quite as good as our favourite ‘Cars’ theory, but we’ll take it.

‘Cars 3’ will star Owen Wilson, Armie Hammer, Nathan Fillion, Tony Shalhoub, Kerry Washington, and Bonnie Hunt.

Brian Fee directed the movie based on a script by Bob Peterson, Mike Rich, and Kiel Murray.

‘Cars 3’ heads to cinemas on 14 July 2017.
