Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds’ belongings will be sold at auction
It’s been announced that the belongings of the late Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds will be sold at auction follow their sad deaths late last year.
The auction was announced by the Profiles in History auction house, with 1,500 items belonging to the famous mother and daughter duo said to be going up for auction starting from September 23rd. As we know, Debbie Reynolds was a keen collector of Hollywood memorabilia, but had in recent years been forced to sell some of her most prized possessions.
According to a statement by Profiles in History, “[t]here will be well over 1500 lots in this auction, with items for collectors but also items for fans who want to own something special that belonged to Carrie or Debbie.”
Of the items up for sale, Carrie Fisher’s infamous life size Princess Leia Statue standing in an original vintage British phone booth is included, as is her on-set personalized director’s chair from Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
From Reynolds’ collection, a personal pair of Ruby Slippers from The Wizard of Oz can be bid upon, as well as the iconic actor’s yellow dress from the “You Were Meant For Me” sequence in Singin’ in the Rain.
Speaking about the auction, Fisher’s brother and Reynolds’ son, Todd Fisher, said that auctioning off some of these possessions was in keeping with his mother’s wishes.
“My mother and sister were magnificent collectors, they amassed an amazing and diverse collection in their lifetimes,” he said. “The size and scope of their collection rivals most museums. So in keeping with my mother’s wishes we have decided to share part of their magnificent collection with all their friends and fans.”
“It is truly a great privilege for us at Profiles in History to be holding this auction – Debbie and Carrie were both dear friends for many years,” said Joe Maddalena, CEO of Profiles in History. “I hope fans from around the world have an opportunity to acquire a memento from their remarkable lives and careers. They are both missed.”
According to Profiles in History, portions of the proceeds will be going to both Debbie Reynolds’ charity The Thalians, and The Jed Foundation, a charity chosen by Carrie Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd. Entertainment Tonight reports that, following the auction, Fisher and Reynolds’ 3.5-acre Beverly Hills property will be put up for sale.
