Carol Kirkwood has opened up about finding love and happiness later in life on Friday, 10 November. The beloved author and weather presenter was speaking to an audience at Good Housekeeping Live, in partnership with Dyson.

In an interview with Good Housekeeping’s Deputy Editor Emma Justice, Carol, who got engaged to former police officer Steve Randall in May 2022, revealed she wasn’t looking for love when she met her partner. “Everyone says that when you get divorced, you have to find yourself before you can move on romantically again, if that’s what you want to do and I thought, ‘I already know myself’.

“And you become happy in your own company or with your friends and you’re making a life for yourself, which is different from your married life, and I was really happy with that.

“Steve came into my life when I was already very happy, I didn’t need a man in my life — but I want him in my life — and that’s the difference.”

Carol, who was previously married to cricket player Jimmy Kirkwood for 25 years between 1990 and 2008, revealed that she met her new partner at a work function.

“I wasn’t even going to go this event at first. We met a work function, where I was a guest and Steve was working and we just hit it off. We were friends for quite a long time, before we became romantically involved.”

When asked about her wedding plan during the talk she revealed she should “get on with it” and “hopefully going to get married soon”. She added, “I imagine we are just going to go and do it and tell everyone about it later.”
