Carina Lau turns heads with lobster dress
15 Apr - It was a star-studded event at the Hong Kong Film Awards, but it was Carina Lau who attracted the most attention when she appeared on stage to present the Best New Actor accolade.
As reported on Mingpao Weekly, the actress, who came alone to the ceremony on 14 April as husband Tony Leung was busy filming in Germany, appeared in a black dress with a large golden lobster decorating the chest area.
Many who saw her attire couldn't help but joked that Carina was paying tribute to the classic 1991 movie, "Dances with Dragons", where Deanie Ip's character is seen wearing a black dress with a huge red lobster covering the abdomen area that her character said was designed by famous Italian designer "Sit Down Please".
However, it is noted that the dress was part of the 2024 Spring/Summer Collection by Daniel Roseberry, the creative director of French haute couture house, Schiaparelli. The said dress was first unveiled at the Paris Fashion Week.
The dress itself was a callback to Elsa Schiaparelli's 1937 dress for the Duke of Windsor's wife Wallis Simpson that has a large lobster painted on the skirt.
