Carina Lau blasted for post about Queen Elizabeth II

20 Sep – Carina Lau recently found herself becoming the target of backlash from mainland netizens over her recent post about the late Queen Elizabeth II.

Earlier, the Hong Kong actress took to Facebook and Instagram to dedicate a post about the long-reigning monarch, writing, "A tribute to Queen Elizabeth. This excellent woman has a long-term stability in a rapidly changing society. Her departure is an irreplaceable loss in our era."

Although she did not share the same post on Weibo, mainland netizens somehow found the way to be triggered by it.

They had since flooded her Weibo account to blast Carina for admiring the Queen, with one writing, "A Chinese who loves the Queen of England is really cheap."

Another expressed, "You love being colonised, don't you Carina?"

This is not the first time that an actor has to apologise for paying tribute to the Queen, as veteran actor Law Kar Ying previously had to stress his patriotism towards being Chinese after being slammed for expressing his thoughts about the monarch's passing.
