Cara Delevigne Is Best in Class in Thom Browne Loafers at the Designer’s NYFW 2025 Closing Show
Cara Delevigne made the case for the effortless chic of classic brown loafers at the Thom Browne Fall 2025 show on Tuesday at The Shed in New York.
At the show, the model and actor wore head-to-toe Thom Browne; a brown suede bomber, a red gingham button down shirt, perfectly boxy brown houndstooth pants, and the Spazzolato Pleated Varsity Loafer. The beautiful Italian-made shoes feature a flat leather sole and walnut brown calf leather with the New York designer’s signature red, white and blue striped grosgrain loop tabs at the back of the shoe.

Leather loafers were introduced in the United States via Norway (a design called Weejuns, inspired by traditional Norwegian fishermen footwear and Native American moccasins) in the mid-1930s and was marketed as the shoe for elite society men. have been a menswear shoe staple pretty much ever since, with the Gucci loafer’s introduction in the 1950s sealing the deal.
Because of their understated elegance and easy wearing do to the slip-on style, loafers have remained a shoe style staple ever since. In recent years, chunky platform loafers such as Prada’s widely copied industrial-inspired Monolith silhouette and Gucci’s stacked 3.5-inch Horsebit Platform Loafer have offered a modern, trendy touch to the classic shape.
Given that ballet flats and other non-heeled shoe styles made a big comeback in 2023, both flat classic loafers and platform ones remain current fashion staples, with designers like Kate Spade, Gucci, Thom Browne, Tod’s and Cole Haan consistently exploring the slip-on shape.
Delevingne’s shoe style is both edgy and elegant. On the red carpet, the star can be seen in platform sandals and pointed-toe pumps by Jimmy Choo, Casadei, and Christian Louboutin, among other designers. On the more casual front, her footwear includes Chanel, Golden Goose, and Puma sneakers, as well as RTA combat boots and Ugg boots.
The Thom Browne show closed out New York Fashion week with a fantastical flurry of origami birds (2000 to be exact) and models with surrealist makeup, slicked back hair and fluttering eyelashes. Delevigne sat front row next to Queen Latifah, Eboni Nichols, Cristin Milioti and Kerry Washington.
The fashion was classic Browne; perfectly strange tailored suits and jackets in scholarly plaids and fashion-clashing layers. Runway highlights include the ultra-wide skirted plaid dress and shorts suit both worn by Doechii at the 2025 GRAMMYs, along with an otherworldly plaid layer cake of a closing dress topped with a sparkling blazer.
