Here Is Caitlyn Jenner on the Cover of "Sports Illustrated"

From Cosmopolitan

Some 40 years after winning gold at the Summer Olympics in Montreal, Caitlyn Jenner reflects on the moment and her journey in a new cover story for Sports Illustrated's double summer issue. The feature is a multi-platform celebration, which includes 22-minute documentary, a lengthy profile, and stunning photographs of past and present. "For those two days in July of 1976, I was the best in the world at what I did," Caitlyn says in the interview. "On the other hand, the decathlon was my best friend, and that was over. I lost my beard." According to Cait, she was "disgusted" by her body at the time. "I was big and thick and masculine. The rest of the world thought it was this Greek god kind of body. I hated it. But it's what I was given, so I just tried to do the best I could with it."

Elsewhere in the story, Caitlyn says she still loves Bruce today. "I like what he did and the way he set an example for hard work and dedication. I'm proud of that part of my life. But this woman was living inside me, all my life, and it reached the point where I had to let her live and put Bruce inside. And I am happier, these last 12 months, than I've ever been in my life."

In the documentary, Cait takes out her gold medal, something she says "never" happens. "You know what it's good for? Show-and-tell. It was a big hit at show-and-tell with all the kids growing up." She also adds that the 1976 Olympics was a place "where I could for one time in my life, be as good as I wanted to be. That's what that medal represents."
