1. Wolf Burgers (PasarBella @ Suntec)
For Over the Top Sweet Potato Fries
Think s'mores and you think dessert. But trust the people at Wolf Burgers to combine that with sweet potato fries to create S'mores Fries ($8), a savoury-sweet side to enjoy together with your burger. The winning combination of lightly torched, pillowy soft marshmallows sitting atop a glorious pile of equally crisp and well-seasoned sweet potato frites, sprinkled with cereal bits, is slightly delirious but oh so wonderful! For a satisfying lunch, pair the fries with the Pork Gochujang Burger ($9.90), a pork patty char-grilled to-order, topped with Korean-inspired grilled cucumber and kimchi — it helps to balance out the spice. Food coma guaranteed.2. Vatos Urban Tacos (South Beach)
For Irresistibly Bold Kimchi Fries
Picture this: A basket of regular, shoestring fries that hold a hidden centre of tender braised pork. Add to that a heaping pile of cabbage kimchi and generous amounts of melted cheese, sour cream, hot sauce and cilantro, and you've got an irresistibly tasty beast — we mean, dish. These bold flavours in the Kimchi Carnitas Fries ($16) are not to be devoured alone — share the mess with a group of friends! And while your hands are already dirty, tuck into the Honey Tequila Chicken Wings ($16) — chicken skin fried to crispy perfection, laced with one part honey and one part jalapenos for that sweet, spicy kick. Also worth getting are the better-than-fish-and-chips Baja Fish Tacos ($10 for two tacos, $14 for three) — tempura beer-battered pollock fried to a shattering crisp, topped with spicy chipotle mayo, fresh salsa and apple coleslaw.3. Tenderfresh Classic (OneKM)
For a Cheap and Good Fries Fix
Set in the basement of One KM mall in Paya Lebar, this Halal-certified joint serves up tasty chicken mains, and it is also where we would go for a cheap and cheerful cheese fries fix. Order the Fries with Meat Sauce, Cheese & Mayo ($5.90), which sees shoestring fries (these are on the soft side) laden with a tangy bolognaise inspired sauce, creamy cheese sauce and generous squirts of mayonnaise. The dish is super tasty, easy on the pocket and a sure winner on days when you’re hankering for tasty fries that don’t break the bank.4. NINJA BOWL
For Poutine with a Twist
An adaptation of the glorious, gravy-laden dish where the light brown gravy takes centrestage, the Poutine ($14) at Ninja Bowl is taken up a notch with the addition of 24-hour braised beef chunks. Golden shoestring fries are layered with tender beef and drenched in a luscious sauce. While the melted cheese scattered amongst the fries does not scream "classic Poutine", it does the job. The portion is quite generous so share it as an appetiser among a few friends while you wait for your grain bowls — we like the Noka Ninja Bowl ($14), which comes with the same braised beef (the more the merrier!) and a wobbly onsen egg, best.5. HOUSE at Dempsey
For Light as Air Truffle Taro Fries
You know your fries are in good hands when there's a whole section dedicated to them, and in various funky incarnations. It'll be tough making a decision, but we're putting our money on House's Truffle Taro Fries ($8) — shoestring yam fries that are fried to a crisp and drizzled in truffle oil. These make a great snack to munch on while waiting for the mains, and because they are so light you need not worry about not having enough tummy space for the mains. Surrounded by Dempsey Hill's lush greenery, House is the perfect location to catch up with your girlfriends, or for an intimate dinner date. Just make sure your companions like fries.6. redpan
For Addictively Good Char Siew Chilli Fries
We love char siew. We love fries. This restaurant at Marina Square ingeniously combines them by garnishing nicely browned fries with a generous serving of saucy, housemade char siew ragout. Don't forget to mix in the spicy jalapeno salsa to spice up the Char Siew Chilli Fries ($7)! The convenient location, reasonable prices and tasty eats (read: 'Lup Cheong' Macaroni and Cheese) make this the perfect place for a casual business lunch meeting, or a family meal after a day of shopping. Hankering for something sweet to end the meal? Opt for the Banana Donuts 'Milo Dinosaur' ($7) — gooey orbs with a goreng pisang centre, dusted with Milo powder!7. Cook & Brew
For Tasty Poutine in a Hotel Bar
Set on the 33rd floor of The Westin Singapore, the stylishly oufitted Cook & Brew (think plush leather armchairs, polished wooden floors and a marble bar) offers amazingly moreish all-day bar fare. Get the Poutine "Eh" ($16) — shoestring fries fried to crisp golden, topped with cheese curds and generous amounts of pulled pork, all drenched in Magner's cider gravy. It's got depth, it's got flavour and it is incredibly delicious. Order the Whipped Buffalo Milk Ricotta ($14) served with a layer of truffle honey and bread, and a couple of beers on the side, and you're all set for a very lazy, tasty afternoon. Pro tip: Come by for happy hour (5 to 7pm) on Monday or Tuesday for 1-for-1 bar snacks and beers.8. Curious Palette
For Diet-Killing Spam Fries
They say good things come in small packages, and in this case, the most sinful, most heart-attack-inducing bowl of fries goes to Curious Palette's Spam Fries ($11.90). The seemingly harmless thick-cut chunks of savoury luncheon meat may just amount to a "couple of sticks", but we swear we could feel our heartbeat starting to slow just halfway through the bowl. There's kaffir lime mayo for dipping, but the spam fries are pretty spectacular on their own. Wash it all down with a cup of good ol' Flat White ($4.90).9. Potato Head Folk
For Sinfully Good Fries in Keong Siak
Leave it to the crew that gave us the famous Baby Huey ($18) burger to come up with Naughty Fries ($10). Imagine a heap of hand-cut chips that are fried skin-on, nestled beneath a spicy bearnaise sauce, beef chilli and parmesan — the perfect bar snack, we say! At the first international outpost of Bali's Potato Head Beach Club, expect plenty of chill out space in the four-storey building in Keong Saik, including a cosy, intimate rooftop bar that's great for kicking back with friends over Friday night cocktails. While the price point is not pocket-friendly, the excellent food, drinks and ambience make it well worth your spending.10. Chicken Up (Tampines)
For Bulgogi Fries in the East
Located on the first floor of Century Square, Chicken Up serves Korean fried chicken and superb bar snacks, and is great for a casual meal with friends. Aside from their finger-licking good YangNyum Chicken Wings ($12 for four), what you should really be coming for are the Bulgogi Fries ($12). Buried below the nest of golden fries are tender, bite-sized soy marinated beef, ready to be mopped up by the nicely browned frites. To seal the deal, the heaping pile is then topped with a generous amount of mayonnaise and onions. Feeling thirsty? Order a Watermelon Soju ($38) — an enormous halved watermelon filled to the brim with watermelon juice and soju — to share. Daebak!11. Loof
For Chilli Crab Cheese Fries
Located at the top of Odeon Tower, this spacious rooftop bar is the perfect place for you and your colleagues to loosen up after work. Come for the Happy Hour deals (house pours start from $5 at 5pm to 5.59pm) and stay for the crowd favourite Chilli Crab Cheese Fries ($14). First fried to a glistening golden brown, Loof's inch-thick potatoes slices are blanketed in a layer of cheddar cheese and then smothered with a generous scoop of moreish chili crab sauce — it is practically all Sri Lankan crabmeat. Wash the messy, cheesy and spicy combo down with The Gummiberry ($22 for two shots) that comes with a meringue on the top!12. PS.Cafe (Harding Road)
For The Best Truffle Fries in Singapore
The humble golden fry is made glorious here at PS Cafe, thanks to the generous dousing of truffle oil and light-as-air parmesan shavings. Crisp on the outside and tender inside, these shoestring fries are testament to how fries should be. Many have dubbed the Truffle Fries ($15) here (available at all outlets) to be the best truffle fries in Singapore, and we completely agree. The portion is generous and can easily be shared among three to four. If you're hankering for something sweet after all that savoury, get the Sticky Date Pudding ($15) — the toffee sauce is spot on! Pro tip: Level up your fries by dipping them in kaffir lime aioli (additional $3).
