Burger & Lobster to resume operations at Jewel Changi Airport after food poisoning incident

Burger & Lobster‘s Jewel Changi Airport outlet will officially resume operations from 25 July 2022. The outlet had been suspended from 16 May 2022, after 17 customers fell ill after dining there from 7 May and 15 May 2022, with six cases of gastroenteritis being reported.

According to a press release by Burger & Lobster, investigations found that there was no evidence suggesting that the food poisoning cases were caused by negligence on their end. The suspension was officially lifted on 5 July 2022.

The press release also cited a joint statement by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), stating that Burger & Lobster had remained compliant with measures stipulated by SFA during the suspension period.

Burger & Lobster’s Food Hygiene Officers and food handlers have also undergone and passed a Basic Food Hygiene training course and WSQ Conduct Food and Beverage Hygiene Audit course.

To avoid a repeat of the food poisoning incident, Burger & Lobster has appointed a Food Hygiene Consultant to enforce strict hygiene practices, as well as conduct quarterly audits at both Burger & Lobster outlets in Singapore.

Additionally, staff members have undergone two days of intensive in-house training on Good Hygiene & Food Safety Practices, and follow-up refresher training will be held every three months or more.

Their kitchen will also be disinfected and deep cleaned by a third-party specialist contractor before the introduction of any ingredient to the restaurant. New chopping boards will be purchased before the outlet reopens, and kitchen work surfaces will be sanitised every four hours during operations.
