Burger King’s new Spicy Chicken King — A new contender to the spicy burger showdown?

When I frequent Burger King, my go-to order would most likely be the Whopper burger. Beef in burgers is a classic for most because what could go wrong? It’s the perfect combination and the basic prototype of what a burger should include. However, to challenge stereotypes, it’s #TimeforachangewithBK. Burger King introduced a new contender— the Spicy Chicken King.

Don’t get me wrong, I love chicken and spice, and when you mix those up, you get everything nice! Whether you’re looking to switch up your fast-food burger order or looking for something different, the Spicy Chicken King is something to consider at your next visit.

Enveloped within two toasted buns with a sprinkle of sesame seeds, the thick and juicy chicken thigh patty is fried to crispy perfection after it has been marinated overnight. Tossed in a unique blend of seasonings, the fried chicken patty is seasoned another time with another layer of black pepper and paprika batter. It definitely hit me with a spicy punch, following true to its description, crispy, juicy, and now spicy!

Thanks to Burger King, I had to privilege of trying their new burger.

Upon my first bite, my first reaction was to scream the word “spicy!” to my dining companion, Aaron. Personally, it kicks, but the spice mellows down as its spice is definitely more peppery than spicy, although I’ve got to say that for Aaron, the burger was quite an easy eat. One thing we agreed on was that this patty was extremely flavourful.

Moving on to the chicken patty— the meat is fresh and it is relatively thick in size. It makes for a substantial mouthful, especially when coupled with crunchy lettuce and mayonnaise as its accompanying condiments.

The meal comes with a medium soft drink and large fries for a total of S$9.95.

We can all agree to disagree, but my personal choice for sides would be the Onion Rings which differ in prices from S$2.40, S$3.40 and S$3.70 whenever I visit Burger King. This is because to my sad realisation, most fast food places in Singapore do not offer that option as a side. Petition to make onion rings a staple in all fast food restaurants please.

Alternatively, if you aren’t a fan of chicken, you can give the Ultimate Angus Mushroom Swiss (S$11) or the Ultimate Tendercrisp Chicken (S$7.50) a shot. These two fall under the Ultimate selection, hence it is slightly on the pricier side. Not to worry, Burger King serves to all ends of spectrum, so be sure to try out their Long Chicken (S$5.30) as a non-spicy option. It resembles a sandwich!

Sugar, spice, and everything nice. It definitely serves as a competitor to all the spicy burgers available in Singapore. Honestly, I hope this stays as a permanent addition to their menu!
