British-Chinese actress joins the cast of "Crazy Rich Asians"

6 Apr – British-Chinese actress Gemma Chan is the latest name to join the cast of "Crazy Rich Asians" alongside Constance Wu, Michelle Yeoh and Henry Golding.

The 34-year-old actress who is best known for her role in the British sci-fi series, "Humans", will be playing the role of Astrid Leong in the Warner Bros adaptation of Kevin Kwan's best-selling novel of the same name.

Chan has also appeared in several popular shows and movies such as "Doctor Who", "Sherlock", "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit", and "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them".

According to the novel description, Astrid Leong is Nick Young's (played by Henry Golding) fashionable cousin who is referred to as "the goddess" and is known for her beauty and impeccable fashion sense.

Constance Wu will be playing the lead character, Rachel Chu, who follows her boyfriend Nick to Singapore to attend a wedding, only to discover that her boyfriend comes from a very rich family.

Meanwhile, Michelle Yeoh will play the role of Eleanor Young, Nick's controlling mother who disapproves of Rachel.

Directed by Jon M. Chu, the movie will feature an all-Asian cast, the first Hollywood movie to do so since the 1993 movie, "Joy Luck Club".

There is no release date for the movie at the moment, but filming is expected to begin this month in Singapore.
