You can satisfy your hunger for answers with knowledge; the feeling of having a physical book in your hands, scrutinising every word and line as you ponder about life, is an unrivalled sensation. But what about satisfying your hunger? That usually requires you to put down your book and reluctantly let your train of thought go—like ellipses at the end of every conversation that’s impossible to continue—to find a place to eat. This could be pretty unsatisfying; imagine ruminating an inconclusive thought over an unappetising meal.

If you’re an avid reader like me or a cafe-goer who loves their coffee, here’s the good news. Huggs-Epigram Coffee Bookshop, an all-Singaporean bookshop, now serves rice bowls from Bowl Chap from 26 April 2021. Bowl Chap is located at Fusionopolis, known for its quality rice bowls of affordable and hearty goodness.

You can now have your meal without leaving your seat and your book. Choose your main among a selection of Grilled Lemongrass Chicken (S$11.90), Aburi Sambal Mayo Salmon (S$15.90) and Smoked Paprika Chicken Katsu Curry (S$12.90). Furthermore, these are not your standard rice bowls, with the fusion of our local favourite sambal with Japanese tastes of aburi salmon in the Aburi Sambal Mayo Salmon. The Smoked Paprika Chicken Katsu Curry is an elevated version of the katsu curry in most Japanese curry houses. It includes cauliflower and pumpkin slices with an added kick from the paprika, making your meal a more layered and balanced one.

Also, they have a special launch deal that includes one Bowl Chap bowl and a free drink at only $S8.90. Choose between the Lemongrass Chicken or Aburi Mayo Chicken Karaage, and a Short Hot Sumatra Kopi or Teh. What’s better than having a satiating meal and warm coffee/tea at an affordable price in the company of Singaporean literature?

Bowls, books, and coffee—usually only two out of the three make sense together. Now, we can have all three and honestly, I’m more than thrilled.
