Bonjour Summer with the new Citadelle gin: Jardin d’Été

SINGAPORE - It's summer all year round in Singapore, which might make it hard to appreciate the warmth and life the sunny season can bring. What we can appreciate however, is the delicious relief we enjoy when a cold fruity drink touches our lips during a particularly hot day. It's even better if it's slightly alcoholic (but that's just a personal opinion).

Artisanal French liquor pioneer Citadelle has just launched its newest gin, Jardin d’Été, in a gorgeous glass bottle that's worth a spot on the most obvious part of the bar cabinet.

Described as an "aromatic choir", the gin is composed of 22 botanicals, the main ones being juniper berries, orange peel, whole lemons, yuzu zest and melon Charentais. The blend of fruits, citrus, and herbs creates an aromatic summer experience with a balanced and bright flavour profile.

New as it may be, it's already sporting several wins. There's the gold medal at the International Spirits Challenge, one of the largest spirits competition in the world, and a double gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

As with most alcohol launches, there are cocktail recipes we can take a leaf out of. Here are three for the perfect summer gin drink.

Tasting notes of Citadelle Gin: Jardin d’Été

Color: Clear

Nose: Fresh and intense, it opens with notes of juniper and citrus fruits (yuzu and orange peels, candied lemon), complemented by flowers (violet) and fennel with the soft spices and licorice.

Mouth: Delicate and with a beautiful freshness, it follows the floral profile of the nose but on a spicier and fruitier expression with tangerine, melon and cubeb. It evolves with notes of angelica, nutmeg, orris root and star anise.

Finish: Very long, floral and fruity, on citrus fruits, almonds, cumin, savory and grains of paradise.

Citadelle Jardin d’été ($82) is now available for purchase at selected Cold Storage and Market Place stores across Singapore, and online at EC Proof and Cold Storage.
