Boardwalk Empire’s Michael Stuhlbarg Could Join Doctor Strange

‘Doctor Strange’ may have found another cast member… as Michael Stuhlbarg enters talks for a role in Marvel’s upcoming superhero movie.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the 47-year-old actor could be joining Benedict Cumberbatch in the upcoming ‘Doctor Strange’.

“Michael Stuhlbarg, who is currently on screens as Apple engineer Andy Hertzfeld in the awards contender Steve Jobs, is in negotiations to join the cast of Marvel’s Doctor Strange.”

‘Doctor Strange’ follows a neurosurgeon who becomes Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme after a traumatic accident renders him unable to operate. Travelling the globe to find a cure for his tremoring hands, Dr Strange eventually learns the mystical arts.

But how does Michael Stuhlbarg fit into this?

Michael Stuhlbarg is perhaps best known for the role of crime boss Arnold Rothstein in the HBO drama, ‘Boardwalk Empire’. But he’s also appeared in a number of big screen projects including the Coen Brothers’ ‘A Serious Man’, ‘Seven Psychopaths’ as well as upcoming biographical drama, ‘Trumbo’.

Which role has he landed in ‘Doctor Strange’?

“Stuhlbarg’s role is being kept hidden in the astral plane.”

Unfortunately, it looks as though there are no details about Stuhlbarg’s potential role… and at this stage, it really could be anything.

What we do know is that he would be joining an already rather stellar cast, including Benedict Cumberbatch as the eponymous Doctor Strange, Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One, as well as Rachel McAdams, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Mads Mikkelsen.

‘Doctor Strange’ will be directed by Scott Derrickson, based on a script by Thomas Dean Donnelly, Joshua Oppenheimer and Jon Spaihts.

‘Doctor Strange’ heads to cinemas on 4 November 2016.
