Hong Kong actress Selena Li doesn’t have a date this Valentine’s Day, but she’s confident that she’ll find someone special this year.

The “To Grow With Love” actress told Yahoo Singapore in an email interview that she plans to just hang out with friends and go for a Mandarin class on Valentine’s Day this year.

Even though she’s still single, Li said that she has a “good feeling” that she’ll find someone this year.

But that doesn’t mean the former beauty pageant contestant is in a rush to find her Mr. Right.

“Good things require patience,” said Li, adding that she believes that there is someone out there for her.

On her impression of Singaporean guys, Li said that they are known to be honest.

But she won’t look specifically for a boyfriend from the city-state, although Hong Kong and Taiwan stars such as Vivian Hsu and Charlie Young have recently tied the knot with Singapore men.

“I believe in destiny,” said Li, adding that the nationality of her future boyfriend doesn’t matter.

What attracts her is a guy who is smart and has a good heart, she explained.

‘I love Singapore’

The 33-year-old Hong Kong-born actress was in Singapore recently for the filming and promotion of Channel 5 drama “Spouse For House”.

Li told Yahoo Singapore that filming in Singapore was “amazing” and even called it a “holiday” because the working hours were a lot shorter than those in Hong Kong, giving her the time to go out and have dinner with her friends.

Li also raved about Singapore food.

“Pepper crab gets a little bit too spicy for me sometimes, but I love chilli crab and the bread we dip in the sauce. Chicken rice and hawker centre food are good as well,” the actress said.

She also recalled having turtle soup which she said was rather weird but delicious.

“This shop sells turtle soup with turtle meat, organs and skin. I haven’t seen that anywhere besides Singapore. Next time I come, I’m definitely going back,” Li added.

As the drama was about housing, she got to learn about HDB flats.

“I would love to be able to buy an HDB, unfortunately I’m not qualified [to buy]. The HDBs are very well kept, I heard the government maintains the buildings every five years or so, even buildings that are like 30 years old, they look very new,” Li said.

“Spouse For House” was also Li’s first English language drama, thus she said that it was “a little bit weird” initially and she struggled to memorise the script.

However, the actress, who studied in Canada, said that she got used to it quickly as she usually speaks to her friends in English.

Li also praised her “Spouse For House” co-stars, including Irene Ang and Alaric Tay, adding they are very “professional” and “good” actors.

Even though she had not met the actors prior to the filming, she said that they took care of her, teaching her Singlish and treating her like family.

She also revealed that there are talks to have a season two for “Spouse For House”.

“Spouse For House” is showing on Channel 5 every Tuesday at 8pm.
