Celebrity photographer Dominic Khoo retires at age 35

After an illustrious career involving photographing the Dalai Lama, Australian beauty Cate Blanchett and soccer player Zinedine Zidane, among many other local and international big names, photographer Dominic Khoo is retiring from the profession.

In a lengthy public post on his Facebook page early on Wednesday morning, the 35-year-old recounted his successes. They include ambassadorships for leading camera brands such as Nikon and Leica, having his works in the Singapore Art Museum's permanent collection, and photographing more than 150 celebrities from around the world.

He also shared his disappointments, concluding that there was "a lot more upside than downside".

"God gave me a lot of guidance in the art business and hands down I'm grateful perpetually," wrote Khoo, who started posh indie art gallery 28th Fevrier at Jalan Kilang two years ago. "It's been a fantastic, amazing journey and now it's time to strap on, buckle up and spring on to my next pursuit in life."

While remaining coy about what exactly his next steps will be, Khoo said he will be giving away his camera and his art over the coming months.

"I believe in any case that one must send the elevator back down," he wrote.

Khoo's post was greeted with a mix of sadness and congratulatory well-wishes from friends and members of the public.

Said local musician Don Richmond, "Your passion to pursue what you love will translate into success for everything that you wish to do. Here's wishing you happiness every step of the way!"

Added local singer Tay Kewei, "It takes guts to do this. Keep us posted."
