Blackpink Took Over the VMAs Stage with Their "Pink Venom" Performance

Blackpink tore up the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards stage in their first U.S. awards show performance.

The K-pop quartet—composed of Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa—became the first female K-pop group to perform at the VMAs tonight, with a hyped-up rendition of their brand-new single "Pink Venom."

With the help of smoke effects and full-stage visualizers—including a pair of giant pink fangs—the four stars performed the track's intricate choreography alongside a dozen backup dancers. All the dancers were dressed in black, with the group adding pink accents including sleeves and thigh-high boots to each of their looks.

Before the performance, the members made their grand red-carpet entrance in matching all-black looks designed by their favorite designer brands: Lisa in a strapless sweetheart-neckline Celine gown, Jisoo in a Dior gown with a floral-print overlay, Jennie in a Chanel halter crop top and maxi skirt, and Rosé in a Saint Laurent mock-neck minidress.

The foursome, who won awards for Group of the Year and Best Metaverse Performance earlier in the night, are preparing for their first comeback since October 2020. After their forthcoming album, Born Pink, drops on September 16, the members will set out on a five-continent world tour.

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the members opened up about the process behind their hit songs and performances.

"We are involved from the beginning, building the blocks, adding this or that feeling, exchanging feedback — and this process of creating makes me feel proud of our music," Jisoo told the outlet. "If we just received pre-made songs, it would feel mechanical. I feel more love for the process, because we say, 'How about adding this in the lyrics? How about adding this move in the choreography?'"
