BIR files case against Richard Gutierrez before DoJ

The department charged him with several counts of falsification including documents with affidavit

21 Aug - It was reported that the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) has decided to file a series of criminal complaints against actor Richard Gutierrez for falsification of tax returns before the Department of Justice (DoJ).

As reported on Sunstar, on 17 August, BIR Assistant Commissioner James Roldan revealed that the department has charged the actor with one count of submission of falsified annual income tax return, six counts of submission of falsified quarterly value-added tax (VAT) returns, and two counts of submission of perjured affidavits.

As for Gutierrez's response about the tax evasion complaint filed by BIR back in April, the department stated that the documents attached to his affidavit were fake.

"He committed the crime of perjury in solemn affirmation, when he knowingly used perjured affidavits during the preliminary investigation of his defense tax evasion case," it added.

The actor has not yet addressed the issue at the time of writing.
