Bill Murray Crashes White House Press Conference To Talk Up Cubs’ Chances

Well-known Chicago Cubs fan Bill Murray took an Internet meme to the White House today, crashing the very end of a Presidential press conference to talk about the Cubs. Murray, who in recent years has gone viral for crashing a bachelor party, a NYC Kickball game, even a random couple’s engagement photos, took over the presser to talk up his team’s chances in the National League Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

With a very game White House press corps addressing Murray as “Mr. President,” the actor-comedian-director was bullish about the Cubs, and threw some shade on Los Angeles. “I feel very confident that (Dodgers ace) Clayton Kershaw is a great, great pitcher, but we got too many sticks…” he said. “You get a little bit of Autumn in Chicago, you don’t get that in Los Angeles. Trees just die in Los Angeles, in Illinois they flourish.”

Murray was on hand for a meeting with President Barack Obama, about which Obama later remarked that as a White Sox fan, Murray’s Cubs jacket was “a little troubling.” The reason for the meeting wasn’t disclosed, though Murray is set to receive the Mark Twain Prize at the Kennedy Center on Sunday.
