Big question: how did Ronald end up on Jury Duty?
OK, so we're kind of late to the game, but consider us completely and utterly obsessed with Jury Duty. The Freevee show, which is available to watch on Prime Video, follows a 'dury' during a fake trial in California, where all of the participants are paid actors except for one: Ronald Gladden. But how did he actually end up on the show?
The social experiment watches as one person (Ronald) unknowingly participates in a documentary-style comedy series, where he is the only person who doesn't realise the whole thing is set up.
According to San Diego Union Tribune, Ronald was between jobs as a solar panel installer / Home Depot project manager, when he applied for a Craigslist (a bit like Gumtree) advertisement. The listing asked for people "willing to be part of a jury pool for a civil trial in Southern California, that would be covered by a TV documentary crew."
Apparently Ronald was looking for an "educational experience", so applied for the show, having absolutely no idea what he was getting himself into. The trial was filmed in a disused courthouse in Huntington Park, Los Angeles, under the guise of a serious documentary about the trial of an intoxicated employee, who had cause irreversible damage to a T-shirt business.
Executive producer Nicholas Hatton revealed over 4,000 people had volunteers for the jury, but that they were after someone very specific. "It was vital to find someone we sensed the audience could root for and would also provide the heart and moral compass of the show," he said of Ronald.
