Back in 2021, the Princess of Wales launched the Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, which aims to drive awareness and action on the importance of the earliest years of a child’s life. And today, she stepped out to see how the foundation is putting its money where its mouth is by funding projects to help infant and family wellbeing.

Kate visited Nuneaton, which is in the midlands, to meet health visitors taking part in a new study which has received a £50,000 grant from her royal foundation. Dressed in a green and white dress and white stiletto shoes, she stopped to give school children a high-five outside the children’s center before meeting families inside.

A video posted online by royal editor Rebecca English captured a sweet moment when a baby burped loudly as Kate was chatting to the group, resulting in the room erupting with laughter. Kate also knelt down to speak with children who were playing at the center.

A Kensington Palace spokesperson described the visit today as a big day for the Princess’s early year’s work. “By working closely with people from across the private, public and voluntary sectors, including the early years workforce, The Princess of Wales and the Centre for Early Childhood hope to create a network of shared knowledge and best practice which can be used to identify and collaborate on new solutions and inspire action to drive real, positive change on the early years,” the Palace said in a statement.

The study which the foundation has funded is trialing and evaluating the Alarm Distress Baby Scale (ADBB) in the UK over 10 months in south Warwickshire. The tool can be used to detect early signs of psychological distress and Kate saw how it can be used to support parents during a visit to Denmark in February 2022.

The Princess launched an awareness campaign around the early years called Shaping Us in January this year. Her role prevents her from being political but critics of the campaign have said more is needed than awareness at a time when families are struggling from lack of investment in infrastructure.

William and Kate have a busy few days coming up as they are expected to appear at Trooping the Colour on Saturday, the Order of the Garter on Monday and Royal Ascot next week, as well as their other engagements.
