Bianca Gonzalez: Dark skin is not a problem!

16 Apr – Bianca Gonzales recently took to social media to express her thoughts about the idea that being brown-skinned is a problem that needed to be "treated".

As reported on Rappler, the TV personality, who is a morena herself, seemed to be referring to the recent backlash against a skin-whitening brand's new ad, saying that there is nothing wrong with being dark-skinned.

"There is no problem at all to want to whiten one's skin. The problem is when whitening brands make us look pitiful because we're dark. We're not pitiful, our complexion is beautiful," she tweeted.

Gonzalez also mentioned celebrities like Tweetie de Leon and Angel Aquino as beautiful morenas who are proud of their skin colour.

"I looked up to them. I did not need to compare myself to fair-skinned girls. It need not be a battle of dark and fair," she added.

The mother of two also stressed that while she will not say no if her dark-skinned daughters want to whiten their skin, she will absolutely teach them that their natural skin colour is not shameful or make them less beautiful.
