‘Beyond’: Freeform Embraces Binge-Watching, Will Release Entire First Season Online On Premiere Night – NY Comic-Con

Freeform is joining the binge-watching bandwagon. The network said today it will premiere its new series Beyond on January 2 at 9 PM on Freeform, and at the same time will launch the entire first season on multiple digital platforms, including the Freeform app, Freeform.com, On Demand and Hulu. The news was announced during the show’s panel today at NY Comic-Con.

“The premiere of Beyond marks an important milestone in the history of Freeform, nearly a year since our rebrand,” network president said Tom Ascheim. “One of the promises we made to our audience at the time was to create content they love and to make that content easily accessible. Beyond helps us live up to both promises. In the same way we modernized our brand, we are modernizing how we bring our shows to our audience.” Ascheim added that Beyond would not be its last “binge from the start” show.

Freeform is following in the footsteps of other cablers and broadcast nets that have joined the trend of releasing multiple episodes simultaneously. NBC was the first traditional network to release an entire season of a show on-demand with summer drama Aquarius in 2015. TNT did something similar with Public Morals, releasing the first four episodes simultaneously the day after its series premiere. Like with the other shows, Beyond episodes will still be released weekly on linear TV.

Beyond stars Burkeley Duffield as Holden, a young man who wakes up from a coma after 12 years and discovers new abilities that propel him into the middle of a dangerous conspiracy. Now Holden must try and figure out what happened to him during those 12 years; how to survive a world that changed while he was gone; and answer the question, why did this happen to him? Romy Rosemont, Michael McGrady, Jonathan Whitesell, Dilan Gwyn and Jeff Pierre also star.

The network also released a first-look trailer, which you can check out above.

Beyond is created, written and executive produced by Adam Nussdorf (Once Upon a Time in Wonderland). Tim Kring (Heroes), David Eick (Battlestar Galactica), Steven Adelson, Zak Kadison, Justin Levy and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones will serve as executive producers.
