Betty Sun Li nearly rejected "Nothing Gold Can Stay"

6 Sep - Chinese actress Betty Sun Li admitted that she nearly rejected the offer to star in her upcoming drama, "Nothing Gold Can Stay".

The actress, who sat down for an interview with Tencent to promote the new drama recently, shared, "When the company first gave me the script, I read the brief introduction, and found several keywords that I didn't like."

The keywords, she said, is "important woman", "development in history", and "costume". Having starred in many period dramas such as "The Legend of Zhen Huan" and "The Legend of Mi Yue", Sun knew how difficult it was - physically and mentally - to work in such production.

"But then director [Ding Hei] gave me a call and told me that he has a script for me to look at. I opened the email, and found the same script. I told him that I have already received it before but I haven't read it. He asked me to read it, and I didn't have the nerve to say no," she said.

It was after reading the script for the second and third time that Sun decided that she may be able to portray the character given to her.

"After talking to the director, I became more and more interested in the drama," she said, adding that the script was able to hook her.

The series, based off a real-life story, stars Sun as Zhou Ying, a budding businesswoman who takes on the responsibilities from her dead husband and starts rebuilding their business empire from scratch.
