Taking some time off for a vacation can really help you mentally reset and lift your spirits, and where better to go than the official Happiest Place On Earth? There's one catch, though - Disney World visits can get a little pricey, and certain times of year are more expensive (and more crowded!) than others.

When you take your Disney World vacation is totally up to you and what works best for your schedule, but if you're planning a trip, most travel bloggers and magazines tend to agree on what constitutes the best and worst times to visit. Let's start with the worst times and get those out of the way, shall we?

When to Avoid Going

You probably can already assume that the holidays are the worst time to visit Disney World, and you're not wrong, mostly because the prices tend to skyrocket at that time. It makes sense - people have off from work and kids are off from school during the holidays, and a trip to Disney World is obviously a fun way to celebrate. But Thanksgiving and the end of December aren't the only times to avoid a trip to the iconic theme park - you might want to consider skipping the summer months, too.

For one, the prices tend to be a little higher in the months of June, July, and August, namely because, again, kids are home from school and families tend to go on vacation during this time. On top of that, as Travel + Leisure points out, the Florida weather in the summer months can make your trip a little more unpleasant (hello, high heat, humidity and thunderstorms). And during both summer and the holidays, you can expect bigger crowds, which means longer lines and wait times for all the attractions you want to see and things you want to do.

When to Visit

For the absolute best Disney World experience possible, there are two months out of the year during the year to consider: January and September. Of course, there are a few other seasons that are good for a Disney visit, but these two months are the best of the best. Why, you ask? Because they fall immediately after the aforementioned peak visit times. Kids go back to school, people get busy at work, and vacations just aren't top of mind at those times.

According to Travel + Leisure, January is the cheapest month to visit the theme park, so if your sole goal is to save as much money as possible, skip the holiday trip and plan one for directly after the holidays. The difference in price is quite sizeable - all you have to do is choose the resort you want to stay in and look at the rate calendar and you'll see that prices jump upwards of $50 or $100 per day during the holidays and immediately drop to much lower than average by January 2. The prices tend to stay low until Valentine's Day, when they creep right back up to normal again. In September, you probably won't see as much of a price difference, but you will face fewer crowds, making it a much more enjoyable trip experience overall, Undercover Tourist points out.

Oh, and one last tip for avoiding crowds and saving money no matter what time of year you're visiting? Go on weekdays and avoid the weekends - for one thing, more people tend to be there on weekends, and for another, hotels and resorts in general tend to be more expensive on weekends than they are during the week, Disney World or not. Happy vacationing!
