I've got a little bit of a confession to make: I've never been a big Cyber Week guy. For an inveterate shopper like myself the pageantry of it all is almost always too much. It's exhausting, man. The sheer thirstiness on display sort of reminds me of those flickering neon signs you see every now and then on the freeway or outside beleaguered shops blearily advertising BIG SAVINGS! except some of the brands involved are a shade less subtle. Remind me what, exactly, we're celebrating here?

Honestly, it's not even all that deep—the savings simply never seemed that compelling to me. Plain and simple. The real deals, or so the conventional thinking went, come at the end of the season, when retailers have taken stock of what's left and are finally ready to get down to business. Well, folks: I was wrong. (In some ways, at least.) For better or for worse, Black Friday and Cyber Monday have morphed into a paean to American consumerism, two bona fide national holidays in their own right. Sure, there's still a whole lot of noise out there, but these days retailers of all types are champing at the bit to get in on the action, and in pretty significant ways too. Frankly, Cyber Week's become too big for me to ignore. And boy, did I pick the right year to start paying attention.

Yes, brands are still doggedly ramping up their offerings in a desperate bid to outdo each other, and it's all a tad depressing to see. But if you can ignore the discomfort for a moment (a personal specialty around here!) there's some real, capital-D deals to be had. Plus, if you're not in the mood to scuba dive through the deepest depths of the world wide web, scraping the internet's surface for your own affordably priced grails, I made up for a couple of decades' worth of listlessness by doing it for you. So, assuming you can temporarily table your cognitive dissonance, all that's left to do now is the most time-honored holiday tradition of them all: blowing a small bag on clothing you told yourself you wouldn't be buying this season.

Happy Thanksgiving, people. Don't go too hard out there.
