This Is the Best Airport for Food — and It's T+L's Best Airport in the World
You'll definitely want to get to these airports early.
In many airports, food options are limited to a fast food joint, a coffee shop, and a newsstand with soggy sandwiches. But in others, there's a true smorgasbord of global cuisine. And according to online slots site Betway, which has ranked the top 20 airports for foodies, there's one that stands far above the rest: Singapore Changi Airport (SIN).
The airport, which has been repeatedly voted by Travel + Leisure readers as one of the best in the world since 2013, has nearly 200 restaurants serving 64 types of cuisine. This includes the likes of chilli crab at Jumbo Seafood and Kam’s Roast, an outpost of Hong Kong's one-Michelin-starred Kam’s Roast Goose.
The second best airport for foodies is Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), the world's busiest airport serving 93.7 million travelers annually. It has far fewer restaurants and cuisines than Singapore Changi, with 121 eateries serving 38 types of cuisine, though that's still a very impressive selection. Some local restaurants with a presence at this airport are Atlanta Chophouse & Brewery, Bantam and Biddy, Ecco, and One Flew South.
And coming in No. 3 is Tokyo Haneda Airport (HND), which has 149 restaurants — though only 16 cuisines.
To come up with the ranking, Betway analyzed the number of restaurants in the world's 48 busiest airports, the variety of cuisine types, the average Google review score for the restaurants, and the number of Instagram tags at each airport.
No matter which of these airports you're traveling through, there's one thing for sure: you'll want to build in plenty of time to enjoy these eats! For us, that means arriving early at your departure airport and booking a reasonably long layover if you're connecting flights.
