Ben Affleck Says Standalone Batman Film Brings ‘Tremendous Amount of Pressure’
Ben Affleck has begun his courting of worldwide Batman fans, appearing at San Diego Comic-Con — with his director’s hat on — to discuss the upcoming standalone Batman film from Warner Bros.
“It’s really inspiring taking on something like this character and this story. The only thing analogous to it is a great play that’s been done before,” Affleck said on Saturday morning during the studio panel.
“There’s a tremendous amount of pressure and a tremendous amount of work that’s already gone into it,” he said of Batman portrayals throughout the years, including Christopher Nolan‘s beloved vision of the character and Zack Snyder‘s recent efforts.

Affleck appeared with fellow DC Comics adaptation directors like Patty Jenkins (“Wonder Woman”) and Snyder (“Justice League Part One”).
The actor won high praise for his first outing as Bruce Wayne and his dark alter ego in Snyder’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” which has earned $872.7 million worldwide since its March 2015 release. Affleck is set to reprise his role as Batman in the Aug. 5 release of “Suicide Squad” and in Snyder’s two-part “Justice League,” scheduled to hit theaters in 2017 and 2019, respectively.
The standalone project was announced at April’s CinemaCon by Warner Bros. Entertainment Chairman and CEO Kevin Tsujihara.
