Ben Affleck, Charlie Hunnam and Garrett Hedlund charm fans in Singapore while promoting 'Triple Frontier'
The stars and producer of heist thriller Triple Frontier are in Singapore to promote the Netflix film, and they took the time to get up close with fans at Marina Bay Sands on Friday night (8 March).
Actors Ben Affleck, Charlie Hunnam and Garrett Hedlund made their rounds on the red carpet at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, obliging fans with selfies and autographs.
Triple Frontier also stars Oscar Isaac from the new Star Wars trilogy and Pedro Pascal from Narcos. The film is about a group of former Special Forces operatives who plan to steal millions from a violent drug cartel in South America. The film was produced by Chuck Roven (Wonder Woman, The Dark Knight trilogy), directed by J.C. Chandor (A Most Violent Year) and co-written by Chandor and Oscar-winner Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, Zero Dark Thirty).
The stars also spoke to reporters at a press conference on Saturday at Marina Bay Sands. It was their first time in Singapore for all the actors. When asked what they thought of our sunny island, Hunnam, who starred in King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, said, “It seems like the people are exceptionally friendly. It seems like a very happy place. I’m excited to have a few more days to see the sights and hopefully interact with as many people as possible.”
Since the actors play a group of former Special Forces soldiers in Triple Frontier, they were asked what kind of warriors they were in life and what challenges they face. Affleck said he was “embarrassed” to compare his own life to that of the elite military men that they spoke extensively to in the course of research for the film.
Affleck said their military advisors spent “virtually their entire lives engaging in combat, counterterrorism, regularly putting their lives on the line”, adding, “It was a profoundly humbling experience to be around these men and understand what true sacrifice and commitment and duty really was.”
Speaking about the challenges they faced in filming the action flick, Hunnam said that director Chandor had to go around the cast asking who was willing to shoot a scene where they had to swim in water with mules, but was turned down by Affleck, Isaac and Pascal. “Garrett and I were the idiots who said yes. So we found ourselves in an Olympic-sized pool swimming with mules. You’ll have to see the film to see how that particular fiasco ended up.”
Ben Affleck recently played Batman in DC Studios’ Justice League films, though he gave up the role citing incompatibility with the character. Charlie Hunnam is most well-known for his role as Raleigh Becket in Pacific Rim. Garrett Hedlund was recently seen in period drama Mudbound.
