'Battlefield 1' to add Premium Friends sharing service

"Battlefield 1" studio DICE wants its game's maps to have "as many players as possible"

Players who have paid for access to extra multiplayer levels in World War I action game "Battlefield 1" will be able to invite non-paying friends to join them, thanks to a test run of Premium Friends starting March 30, 2017.

"As a player who owns Battlefield 1 Premium Pass you will be able to bring your friends in Battlefield 1 along to play on the new maps," explained producer Andreas Skoglund in a blog post to the game's website battlefield.com.

"If someone owns a Battlefield 1 Premium Pass the party will become 'Premium Enabled.' This will allow anyone in that party to play on all maps, regardless if they own the content or not. The access is available as long as the party is 'Premium Enabled.'"

Aside from the convenience of accessing Premium content whenever desired, some other perks remain exclusive to Premium Pass owners.

Experience points will be gained only by Premium Pass owners (non-owners have accumulated XP stored and retroactively applied should they go Premium), and likewise for progress towards other digital rewards such as codexes and expansion-specific medals.

Similarly, only Premium Pass owners will be able to have an expansion pack's weapons and vehicles equipped as standard on their soldier.

The move follows that of another Swedish-made action game, "Payday 2," which allowed players to invite friends to premium maps, while incentivizing the purchase of extra content in other ways.
