Barbie director Greta Gerwig has landed her next project, with the writer-director set to adapt The Chronicles of Narnia novels for Netflix.

As per The New Yorker, Gerwig has a deal with the streaming service which will see her write and direct at least two novels from CS Lewis’ classic series.

Lewis’ series has been adapted in part before, with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader being released in 2005, 2008 and 2010 respectively. A fourth film, based on The Magician’s Nephew, was originally planned but never materialised.

It is currently unclear which novels – there are seven in total – will be adapted by Gerwig, or whether Netflix will either continue or completely reboot the film series.

Before Gerwig tackles the world of Narnia, her vision of the world’s most famous doll will hit the big screen later this month, with Margot Robbie playing Barbie alongside Ryan Gosling as Ken.

The actress recently admitted that she was ecstatic to join Barbie as long as one condition was met – that the Dreamhouse was included in production: "The first thing I said to Greta when we first sat down and talked about the movie [was] 'I'll follow your vision.

"'Whatever you want this Barbie movie to be, let's do that. Except I just have one favour. Please, please, please can we have a Dreamhouse where she has a slide that goes from her bedroom down to her pool, because that is my goal in life,'" she revealed.

Robbie, who has also appeared in The Suicide Squad and Babylon, recently revealed that she and Gerwig had to convince Mattel president Richard Dickson of one scene in particular after the COO thought the message was "off-brand".

Barbie will be released in cinemas on July 21.
