Bangkok’s overrated Jodd Fairs Rama 9 night market has shut down
Bangkok is an awesome destination for good food, massages, shopping, and vibrant night markets! However, if Jodd Fairs near Phra Rama 9 MRT station was on your must-visit list for your upcoming trip, I regret to inform you that it has shut down.
TikTok user, @crystalmatchaaa had posted a video (pictured on the right) on 14 Jan 2025 showing the once-vibrant Jodd Fairs night market now completely torn down, confirming that it has ceased operations.
Now, I don’t know about you, but during my past 2 trips, I visited Jodd Fairs night market and didn’t enjoy it at all (purely my opinion, no offence). It felt cramped, and to be honest, a little overrated.
Jodd Fairs had over 700 stalls selling a wide variety of food, drinks, desserts, and retail knick-knacks. One standout stall that consistently drew a steady stream of customers was Leng Zapp Volcano Ribs.
It sold braised pork ribs in portions ranging from single servings to the massive XXXL size, which came stacked like a tower.
The old site will soon be cleared for the construction of the ‘Super Tower,’ a soaring 125-story skyscraper that will become the tallest building in both Thailand and Southeast Asia. Wow, impressive!
Tourists can still visit Jodd Fairs Ratchada, a fairly-new night market that was established in Nov 2024. It’s situated along Ratchadapisek Road, next to the Cultural Centre MRT Station. It’s opened by the same operator, Rod’s & Son, boasting about 20,800 square metres and features over 1,500 retail stalls and restaurants.
