New Balance’s New Skate Shoe With Margielyn Didal Pays Homage to a Filipino Snack
New Balance and Flipino pro skateboarder Margielyn Didal have once again joined forces, this time reworking the Numeric 272 to celebrate Didal’s cultural roots.
Available now on Newbalance.com, the shoe features a black suede upper with green mesh cross-weave details meant to signify the Filipino snack called “puso,” a coconut-wrapped rice treat. The insoles of the shoes are co-branded and printed with images of puso, while also being thinner than those found in the original model to provide exceptional board feel. As another new edition, the NB Numeric Margielyn Didal 272 silhouette also includes a redesigned vulcanized sole for enhanced comfort.

New Balance and Didal first teamed up last year on a pair of 379 Pro Shoes, which were also designed to pay tribute to the athlete’s heritage. Complete with signature technical features like a lightweight, grippy construction and supportive rubber heel anchor, the makeover was done with pops of blue, red and yellow and featured a Filipino flag motif on the heel.
Just 22 years old, Didal first rose to fame when she competed and won a gold medal in the 2018 Asian Games. She’s since placed 7th at the finals of the inaugural women’s street skateboarding event during this year’s Tokyo Olympics.
Even better news, her latest collaboration with New Balance is available for both men and women and retails for $79. But you’ll want to grab your pair ASAP, as sizes are already selling out fast. Shop the style below while the getting’s good.
