Bai Baihe doesn't want to be known as a Chick Flick star

29 Mar - Chinese actress Bai Baihe would rather not be labeled as the "Spokesperson of the Young Ladies" (a term used to describe an actress of movies that appeals mainly to women), even though she is flattered to be called one.

As reported on Tencent, the actress had recently shown an impressive performance in her new movie, "The Missing" - playing a policewoman who will stop at nothing to find her missing daughter.

Known for her many girl-next-door roles in movies such as "Go Away Mr Tumor" and "Chongqing Hot Pot", her performance in the Xu Jinglei movie raised a question whether she is trying to make a transition into other genres.

But when asked about it recently at the premiere of the said movie, Bai responded, "I do believe that actresses shouldn't have any particular labels, like "box office queen" or "spokesperson of the young ladies". I do thank the media for such a compliment, and I am grateful for the audiences' acceptance, but I would rather not have any labels."

She also denied that she was 'transitioning' into any genre, saying that it was just a new attempt.

"I don't agree with the use of the word 'transition', because it is natural for actors to try other things. In fact, often actors find themselves working on the same type of roles after being successful at playing it the first time. But thanks to [director] Xu, I was able to challenge myself to try something new," she said.
