You might recall reading about Authentic Mun Chee Kee’s plight earlier this year. The business was dealt a Closure Order by the Building & Construction Authority (BCA) following the discovery of a damaged wall. Said wall separated the eatery’s kitchen from its neighbouring unit was deduced to be at risk of collapsing.

As a result, the eatery was made to move out of its premises at 207 Jalan Besar on 6 Feb 2024. They had doled out bowls of delicious pig’s organ soup from that space for 12 years.

Nonetheless, Authentic Mun Chee Kee returned with great news 2 days later. They took to their Facebook page to announce the slated relocation to 65 Maude Road in ‘early Apr’. Its official reopening date of 8 Apr was confirmed on 5 Apr.

According to the page, the new eatery is situated just a minute’s walk away from its previous location.

Clearly, Authentic Mun Chee Kee’s triumphant return was a highly anticipated affair. The Facebook post was warmly received, with numerous likes and congratulatory comments and some even tagging friends to make plans.

The business’s 2-month hiatus was certainly not without its setbacks, though. In an interview with Chinese publication 8World News, business-owner Chen Renyao (transliterated from Mandarin) divulged that they had incurred costs totalling between S$280,000 and S$300,000 during this period.

The sum encompassed lost rent from the old shop, employee salary compensation and renovation costs for the new eatery.

Nevertheless, Mr Chen does not lament the monetary losses, prizing the safety of his employees and diners above all else. He expressed much gratitude and hopes for his patrons’ continued support and care.
