Ariana DeBose just joked about *that* viral rap and honestly, we stan
Not only did last night's SAG Awards see plenty of spicy fashion lewks and fun celeb moments (see: Jennifer Coolidge quite simply breathing and making it hilarious), it also featured a joke from Ariana DeBose about that viral rap. And honestly? We're so here for that.
In case you missed it, Ariana recently performed at the BAFTAs, name-checking a handful of the female nominees, including 'woman king' Viola Davis and Angela Bassett, who she praised for 'for doing the thing' – but unfortunately Ariana's performance was met with a fair bit of trolling online, amongst the praise.
Now, however, it seems the Hamilton star is in a good place with it all and cracked a joke about the whole incident, which sadly led to her deactivating her Twitter account.
Whilst appearing on stage with fellow actor Diego Luna and praising all of the "remarkable work" from those nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series category, Ariana gave her shoulders and little shimmy and quipped, "Diego, do the thing!" when encouraging him to reveal the winner. Safe to say, it went down a treat with the audience, which included Angela Bassett herself, who on this occasion continued to do the thing and laughed along with Ariana.
After the mixed response to Ariana's BAFTA performance, BAFTA producer Nick Bullen spoke out in her defence to Variety last week and said, "I think it's incredibly unfair, to be frank. I absolutely loved it. Everybody I've spoken to who was in the room absolutely loved it. She's a huge star, she was amazing."
