Arashi donates hefty amount to earthquake relief

11 Jan - Japan's long-running boy band Arashi has recently donated a hefty amount of money to help victims of the recent earthquake.

As reported on Yomiuri, the five members; Satoshi Ohno, Sho Sakurai, Masaki Aiba, Kazunari Ninomiya and Jun Matsumoto forked out a total of JPY 67.5 million for the Noto Peninsula earthquake relief, which is approximately USD 466,064.

In a statement released along with the donation, the members stated, "We sincerely pray that everybody will be able to live in a safe environment as soon as possible."

According to Ishikawa Prefecture, as of 8 January, a total of JPY 4.7 billion has been donated through various organisations.

The group's record company revealed that Arashi donated the proceeds from an event held on New Year's Eve as well as the fees of the five members.
