All About April's New Moon and What It Means for Your Zodiac Sign

April's new moon coincides with the solar eclipse, a rare phenomenon that will be visible from Earth on April 8 for the first time since 2017

April's moon is the star of the month!

Lunar lovers are going to want to point their eyes to the sky this April because a number of exciting extraterrestrial events are taking place as the moon enters its various phases.

The spectacles in space kick off with the new moon, which reaches its peak at 2:21 p.m. ET on April 8 a few weeks ahead of the full Pink Moon on April 23. In contrast to beautiful full moon appearances, new moons blend in with the night sky.

However, an exciting phenomenon coincides with the April new moon this year! A rare solar eclipse will take place, marking the first time it will be visible from the United States since April 2017.

Approximately eight percent of the human population will be able to watch the eclipse from their perspective on Earth as the path of totality crosses Mexico, the U.S. and Canada. The duration of totality is 4 minutes and 27 seconds.

Solar eclipses are intense, which is why there's an increased attention on them both astronomically and astrologically. PEOPLE's resident astrologer Kyle Thomas describes April's upcoming lunation as a "new moon on steroids" because of its potential to bring "powerful opportunities" and "new journeys" into our lives.

The new moon and solar eclipse will occur in Aries (19 degrees), the second eclipse in this zodiac sign between 2023 and 2025. "The plans you launch now will culminate around the full moon in Aries (24 degrees) on Oct. 17 this year," predicts Thomas.

Aries (March 21-April 19)

Get ready to embark on a whole new journey of life, Aries! "Soon you will watch the old you and the previous versions of your life fade into a memory as you embrace new horizons and soar in new directions," predicts Thomas.

Use this time to prioritize what makes you the happiest. "Step into your power and know that you have the ability to turn all of your dreams and hopes into a reality," advises Thomas. "Set forth on this new adventure and don’t settle for anything that makes you feel unhappy."

Taurus (April 20-May 20)

You've been on the go, Taurus, but now it's time to recharge. Focus on your health and take the proper precautions to prioritize it, whether it be checking in with a therapist or paying a visit to a doctor.

"Reflect on where you’ve been and brainstorm ways you’d like to release baggage, anxiety or anything that is just weighing you down," says Thomas. "If you’ve been dealing with chronic fatigue or stress, you may now find a way to put that in your past."

Gemini (May 21-June 20)

As the solar eclipse dances in the sky, Thomas says Gemini "are set to see some of their most heartfelt hopes, dreams and ambitions come true!" You have the potential to reach "a whole new level" of joy and fulfillment.

Furthermore, Thomas predicts this same lunation "will energize your social circle" and you may now "cross paths with a platonic soulmate," particularly someone who "enters your life and changes it forever."

Thomas' key advice? "Don’t be afraid to network, socialize and share your spirit with those who value you."

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Your professional life is about to turn up, Cancer! The solar eclipse "will blast open a doorway" in regards to "achievement, public recognition and success," Thomas puts forth. "An award, promotion or favorable press may suddenly grant you greater heights and glory."

However, Thomas notes this could also "awaken you to the fact that your current professional lane isn't as fulfilling for you as it once was." Whether you're being called to embark on a new path or stay where you are, he says to "start moving in that newfound direction" now.

Leo (July 23-Aug. 22)

Leo, put your adventure hat on because the unknown is calling! As the solar eclipse energizes your sector of expansion, Thomas says "you may feel the sudden urge to leave your comfort zone and soar toward new horizons."

Some may get the opportunity to "travel physically" or "embark on a new journey to explore new cultures or spiritualities," he puts forth. "Relocation and immigration are also possible for some of you near this time."

Thomas says others may "realize it’s time to head back to school and further their education." If involved in the media or have hopes to be one day, he predicts "a breakthrough around television, publishing or publicity could present itself."

Virgo (Aug. 23-Sept. 22)

It could be time to open up in ways you haven't before, Virgo! With the solar eclipse highlighting your sector of intimacy, sharing and assets, Thomas says "you’ll be focused on where you stand with a significant other."

Keeping something from your partner that you've been itching to share? "Now is a good moment to do so," he says.

Romance aside, Thomas says this lunation could also place an emphasis on financial matters too. He explains how this can be in regards to "a payout, settlement or investment that is finally ready to arrive."

Libra (Sept. 23-Oct. 22)

Pay attention to partnerships around this time, Libra. As the solar eclipse represents "a destined new beginning," Thomas says you could be making "a long-term commitment personally or professionally."

This lunation may also strike the urge to "find balance in your relationships," while others may realize it's the time to "move in, get engaged or married." If you suddenly break apart, Thomas says it's because "you’re destined for someone even better."

Scorpio (Oct. 23-Nov. 21)

Have you been struggling with your work-life balance, Scorpio? Thomas says the "big breakthrough you’ve been awaiting" may now be here!

This solar eclipse could "bring you a leg up in your job, attract a new employer to your doorstep or cause you to work on a milestone new professional project," he puts forth. However, this same energy "could turn your attention to your health, fitness and diet, too."

Regardless, if you'd like to make a change, Thomas says, "the stars are on your side!" Make yourself a productivity machine and dial in hard.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21)

Destiny is calling, Sagittarius! Thomas says this lunation is bringing a golden rush of "romance, creativity, passion and fertility" into your life. The solar eclipse should help you to feel "quite euphoric" as you begin a new journey around matters of the heart, he explains.

"Singles could meet a soulmate and those casually dating could realize they’ve fallen madly in love!" If you're in a committed relationship, Thomas says you now may have the opportunity to "spend more time" with your partner or children.

Capricorn (Dec. 22-Jan. 19)

A fresh start is calling your name, Capricorn! Thomas says "a major new beginning is set before you around family, home or domestic situations," which could be "the push in the direction" you’ve hoped and dreamed would come true.

"Some of you will attend a lovely family event where they are able to reconnect and grow closer with their kindred," says Thomas. "However, this could also bring you a breakthrough around relocation, renovation or real estate — so if you’re ready, keep your eyes on the prize!"

Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 18)

Craving change, Aquarius? Thomas says "a surge of momentum in your daily life" may soon be felt around April's new moon.

As the solar eclipse brings "a breath of fresh air for you," Thomas predicts travel in your future. Meanwhile, he says this lunation may stimulate your senses in yet another way, like "an exhilarating new communication-related projects."
