Anthony Wong considers not attending HKFA 2019

1 Apr – Anthony Wong recently joked that he has contemplated not coming to the upcoming Hong Kong Film Awards for fear of sparking misunderstanding with his reaction or speech.

As reported on Mingpao, the actor, who sat down for a ViuTV interview recently, shared that he will not entertain the idea that he would win Best Actor at the upcoming awards despite already being honoured by the Hong Kong Film Critics Society and the Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild for his performance in "Still Human".

"I'm not going to be overconfident about my chance. I still remember the time that Sean Lau was the favourite, but in the end [he lost] to some guy," he said, referring to him besting Sean for the said award in 1993 for "The Untold Story".

Anthony admitted that there are two things that he is worried about when it comes to attending such an event. Firstly, if he loses, he is worried that he would not know how to react to cameras pointing at his face. Secondly, if he wins, he might say something on stage that would be misconstrued by the media and public alike.

"Maybe I should not go. If I win, I can ask Louis Koo to accept the award on my behalf," he said.
