Anthony Mackie: Captain America: Civil War Could Claim Best Picture Nomination

Anyone who has ever read, heard, or seen an Anthony Mackie interview knows that the actor is a positive individual. He is always willing to wax lyrical about the Marvel universe, while also talking smack about their rivals.

At the moment, Anthony Mackie is out promoting ‘Triple 9′. But the conversation often turns to his performance as Falcon in ‘Captain America: Civil War.’ And when it has he hasn’t missed the opportunity to talk about how impressive the blockbuster is.

In fact, Anthony Mackie’s most recent assertion is that ‘Captain America: Civil War’ could become the first superhero movie to ever earn a Best Picture Oscar nomination.

Mackie made this rather outlandish claim while chatting to BBC Radio 1, which comes just a few days after he insisted that ‘Captain America: Civil War’ will eclipse ‘Iron Man’ and ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ to become Marvel’s best movie.

But what are the chances that ‘Captain America: Civil War’ will actually earn a Best Picture nomination? Well, it really does depend on the critical response.

While its box-office haul is undoubtedly going to be huge, if ‘Captain America: Civil War’ can claim universal positive reviews then there’s every chance it could sway Academy members.

When ‘The Dark Knight’ was overlooked for a Best Picture nomination for the 2009 Oscars the Academy decided to extend the nominees to originally 10 but now 8, something that has since seen the likes of ‘Avatar’, ‘Inception’, and, now, ‘Mad Max: Fury Road’ rewarded, despite being action films.

We’ve only got a few more weeks and months until we get to see ‘Captain America: Civil War’ in all of its glory, as the blockbuster will finally be released on May 6, 2016. It’s safe to say that quite a few people are excited about it too.
