Ann Coulter Hammered by Conservatives for Smearing US War Hero’s Dad as ‘Angry Muslim’

Shortly after Khizr Khan, the father of Army Captain Humayun S.M. Khan, took to the stage at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday, conservative commentator Ann Coulter sent out a tweet to mock the father. And many of her colleagues on the right took offense.

“You know what this convention really needed? An angry Muslim with a thick accent like Fareed Zacaria [sic],” Coulter tweeted, referring to CNN host Fareed Zakaria.

Khan’s son, Capt. Humayun Khan, died serving in the U.S. Army and was hailed as a hero after telling his fellow soldiers to step away from a suspicious vehicle near Baquba, Iraq. As Khan approached the car, it exploded.

Captain Khan was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart.

During the Democratic National Convention, the elder Khan spoke out against Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for his comments about Muslims and spoke in depth about how his son sacrificed his life to stop a suicide bomber for the U.S.

“Hillary Clinton was right when she called my son the best of America. If it was up to Donald Trump, he never would have been in America,” Khan said in his speech. “Donald Trump consistently smears the character of Muslims. He disrespects other minorities, women, judges, and even his own party leadership. Donald Trump loves to build walls and ban us from this country.”
