Anita Chui admits racism against Chinese on the rise in the US
24 Mar – Anita Chui recently admitted that the anti-Chinese stigma is on the rise in the United States following the outbreak of COVID-19.
As reported on On CC, the actress who was in Los Angeles earlier for a commercial and movie project (that had since been cancelled), stated that the racism against Chinese people increased following President Donald Trump's statements about the pandemic and his insistence on calling it the "China Virus".
"I did receive rude treatment while I was in the gym or in a public transport. They would ask me if I am sick and said that I should not get other people sick. Some also think that they should ask me about the virus because I "clearly" know more about it," she said.
Anita stated that she never experienced such a treatment before, and that it really made her unhappy.
She also revealed that a lot of Chinese-American are now finding it a necessity to arm themselves for protection, with a gun shop in Los Angeles seeing an increase of Asian customers over the past few weeks.
However, the actress stated that she is now happy to be able to return home, seeing that Hollywood isn't safe for the time being.
