Andi Eigenmann avoids watching original "Angela Markado"

The actress says that she never watches the original work before doing the remake

2 Dec - Andi Eigenmann has made it a habit not to watch or read the originals before working on remakes or adaptations, for fear of copying the character she is playing.

According to Interaksyon, the actress, who has worked on many adaptations, including the comic books "Galema: Anak ni Zuma" and "Agua Bendita", as well as "Pridyider", which was based on the episode of the same name from the 1984 film, "Shake, Rattle & Roll", stated that she neither watched nor read the original before making them.

And she had intended not to watch the original film adaptation, "Angela Markado", the 1980's Hilda Koronel-starrer of the same name, before playing the titular role in the new one.

"I only saw [all of] them after I did the remakes. I didn't see "Angela Markado", but I plan to watch it after this."

"I chose not to [watch it]. Whenever I am doing a remake, I don't want to watch the original because I don't want to subconsciously copy the character I'm playing," she said.

Eigenmann also has no qualms about people comparing the two movies, saying that while people have the tendency to do so, there is no right or wrong approach to it.

"A remake is a different take on the original. Just because someone else did it first doesn't mean it's right, and if I do it differently, doesn't mean it's wrong," she said, adding that remakes allow her to express her creativity and artistic side.

"Angela Markado" tells the story of a rape victim who's out to seek vengeance from her rapists. It also stars Epi Quizon, Felix Roco, Polo Ravales, CJ Caparas, and Paolo Contis.
