SINGAPORE — American rock band Weezer will be playing their first gig in Singapore since 2016, performing at The Star Theatre on 11 October.

Formed in 1992, the band are best known for their string of alternative rock hits such as "Undone (The Sweater Song)", "Island in the Sun" and "Buddy Holly". Their first two albums - the self-titled Blue Album (1993) and Pinkerton (1996) - are also hailed as some of the finest alt-rock records of the era.

According to concert organiser LAMC Productions, the Singapore concert is part of Weezer's Indie Rock Roadtrip tour, which will begin on Saturday (19 August) in Canada. The gig is currently the only date in Asia announced so far by the band.

Tickets are from $98 to $188, and will go on sale on Sistic from Friday.

Weezer consist of singer and guitarist Rivers Cuomo, drummer Patrick Wilson, guitarist and keyboardist Brian Bell and bassist Scott Shriner. They last played in Singapore at the Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre in 2016.

Gigs by Steve Vai, Suede/Manic Street Preachers

Weezer's gig is one of several Singapore rock concerts recently announced by promoters.

LAMC Productions is also bringing in rock guitar maestro Steve Vai as part of its “Singapore Rock Fest” concert series. The 63-year-old will be performing at the Ho Bee Auditorium in National University of Singapore on 25 October.

Vai has won three Grammy Awards, and collaborated with top rock acts such as Frank Zappa, David Lee Roth and Whitesnake during his 40-year career.

Tickets are from $118 to $600, and are on sale on Sistic.

British rock acts Suede and Manic Street Preachers will also be co-headlining a concert at The Star Theatre on 22 November, as part of their first joint Asia tour which includes dates in Japan and Taiwan.

These two bands are no strangers to performing in Singapore. But while the Manic Street Preachers played only once previously in the city-state - at Fort Canning Park in 2008 - Suede have performed a whopping eight times since their first Singapore gig at the Harbour Pavilion in 1997.

Tickets from $108 to $288 go on sale on Thursday (17 August) for members of concert promoters Live Nation, and on Friday for the public via Ticketmaster, SingPost outlets or hotline: +65-31588588.
