All the times that 'Goblin' actor Gong Yoo made our hearts melt

Fans of “Goblin” will surely list lead actor Gong Yoo as one of the biggest draws of this hit Korean drama.

He stars as the over 900-year-old Kim Shin, whose relationship with his 19-year-old “bride” Ji Eun-tak (Kim Go-eun) is central to the story.

As the series comes to its end (no spoilers for those of us who haven’t caught up to the latest episode), let’s a take a look back at seven scenes where the Korean star and his young love made our hearts melt (or at least flutter).

When he was trying to get attention from Eun-tak…

When Eun-tak started staying with Kim Shin and the Grim Reaper (Lee Dong-wook), she also helped out with the chores like a grateful house guest. Remember how Kim Shin tried to impress her with a classical painting, only to get ignored?

When he watched “Train to Busan”…

Kim Shin and Eun-tak went on a date to catch a movie, “Train to Busan” (which also stars Gong Yoo). After confidently telling Eun-tak not to scream and embarrass him, our lonely Goblin does just exactly that. If you observe carefully, Kim Go-eun looks like she’s almost going to burst out laughing at Gong Yoo’s expressions.

When he got all petty over Tae-hee…

The Goblin might be a mostly-benevolent force of nature, but there’s no denying he can be a bit of a petty fella. Recall how he used his powers to take Eun-tak’s cake and birthday gift away from her because she’d gone to see Tae-hee?

When he was deciding whether to ask Eun-tak out on New Year’s Eve…

Despite being a pretty cool-looking ahjussi with X-men-esque powers, Kim Shin is still shy in the face of love. His nervousness when it came to asking Eun-tak out on New Year’s Eve, coupled with Gong Yoo’s expressions, made for one memorable scene.

When he asked the Grim Reaper for fashion advice…

When Kim Shin first realised that Eun-tak could summon him by blowing out a flame (even on an app, that’s some pretty impressive 5G connection in Korea for you), he wanted to look his best whenever he was called. His poor buddy the Grim Reaper, wanting just to rest after an honest day at work, had to bear with Kim Shin’s fickleness.

When he beat up those gangsters

Of course, Kim Shin does have his cool hero moments, such as when he took on a gang of thugs with a broomstick. Clearly, Eun-tak enjoyed that moment as well, perhaps more than her drink.
