Aliwal Urban Arts Festival returns 25 Jan with music, arts market & more
The Aliwal Urban Arts Festival returns to the Aliwal Arts Centre tomorrow (25 Jan). The festival will bring urban art, street culture, and youth subculture to life through an arts market, enthralling music and dance performances, hands-on workshops, and more.
Check out these highlights.
1. Graffiti Try-Outs
Want to give graffiti a try but are afraid of getting into a brush with the law in Singapore?
Sign up for the Graffiti Try-Outs session at the Aliwal Urban Arts Festival. You’ll get the chance to doodle on a wall (and get away scot-free) under the guidance of 6 youth artists.
These young artists, passionate about street art and urban expression, will teach participants techniques, tips, and tricks to bring their ideas to life through graffiti.
Registration is not required.
Location: Side Wall
3pm – 4.30pm & 5.30pm – 7pm
2. Movement and Lights Skateboarding Contest
If you’re a skateboarding whiz, here’s your chance to flex your chops at Movement and Lights. The skateboarding competition will feature dynamic installations such as motion-responsive lighting and shifting parts, creating a spectacle that enhances each manoeuvre.
If you missed the online registration that closes on 23 Jan, you can still register for free onsite, but slots will be limited.
Location: Aliwal Carpark
4.30pm – 5.30pm, 6.30pm – 7.30pm & 9pm – 10pm
3. Hiphop Workshop
Hip-hop is a type of freestyle street dance performed to the beat of rhythmic music, usually jazz, soul or funk. The 3 main styles of hip-hop are popping, locking, and breaking.
Through learning simple choreography, participants will grasp the fundamentals of hip-hop.
Registration will set you back by S$5 per person.
Location: Multi-Purpose Studio B, #01-06
