Alex Fong successfully completes 45-km swim in nearly 11 hours

8 Nov – Alex Fong has successfully proven his critics wrong by completing his attempt at a 45-km swim around Hong Kong.

As reported on Mingpao, the actor, who began his journey at 5am on 5 November at Sai Wan Sandy Bay Swimming Shed, finished the round in 10 hours and 43 minutes, unofficially breaking the record of 12 hours and 30 minutes previously set by British swimmer Simon Holliday in 2017.

Alex's route included Sai Wan, Central, North Point, Sai Wan Ho, Chai Wan, Shek O, Stanley, Repulse Bay, and Aberdeen, before arriving in Sandy Bay yet again, where his family and friends waited to cheer him on.

Among those seen at the location include Louisa Mak, Kenny Kwan, Natalie Tong, Ivana Wong, and Timmy Hung.

In addition, Alex was also accompanied by four support swimmers at different points of the routes, including Hong Kong Swimming Academy coaches Janet Wu and Ivan Chan, and Hong Kong team member Stephanie Au. The last 500 metres also saw Alex being accompanied by his 70-year-old father, as well as brother William.

Alex, a former Olympic swimmer, announced his attempt as early as June this year, in order to raise awareness and donations for A Drop of Life, a charity that aims to provide clean water to those in need. His mission is to bring clean water to 450,000 people.

He was successful in raising over HKD7.7 million for his effort.
