Alan Tam dismisses criticism about his World Cup theme

4 May – Hong Kong singer Alan Tam has recently dismissed criticisms regarding the Hong Kong theme song "Our Dream" that he helped composed for the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

As reported on Mingpao, the singer, who recently worked alongside artistes both old and new to perform the song, expressed frustration that a lot of netizens are commenting that the song sounds like it was written in the 1980s.

"How can it be old?" he retorted. "Do they even know music? The host country for this year's World Cup is Russia. We have spent the past four days listening to hundreds of Eastern European music and fusing it into a pop song."

Alan stated that even the rap part of the song is new, performed my MC Jin and Gold Mountain.

Alan shared that he has heard a lot of World Cup themes and a lot of them are composed in a way that create a festive feeling.

"There will always be complaints on the internet, but I have also heard a lot of good reviews. Knowing music and not knowing music are two different things," he said.

The new song features various artistes including Hacken Lee, Andy Hui, GEM Tang, Gin Lee, MC Jin, and AGA.
