Adibah Noor will continue to share videos of pronunciation mistakes

17 Feb –Adibah Noor will not be discouraged to improve Malaysians' English proficiency, even after some critics expressed their displeasure over her recent post.

The actress, who recently took to social media to correct minister Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun over her pronunciation of the word "doubt", admitted that she used videos of public figures making such mistakes with the intention to turn it viral. However, this was not so that she could become viral herself.

"It's not for me to become popular or to attract attention so that I could get a job, but I want it to be viral so that more people could learn. If you're saying that I was taking advantage of the blunder... the answer would be, probably. But my intention is to share what I know and not to embarrass anybody," she said to mStar.

Adibah shares video of Rina Harun making pronunciation mistake

In one of her most recent Instagram posts, Adibah shared a clip of Datuk Seri Rina Mohd Harun, the Minister of Women, Family and Community Development pronouncing the word "doubt" the wrong way during the 59th session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD59) at the United Nations.

"Although I must say the speech writer is awesome, I wish I could read that text myself," she expressed in the video. "I have already explained this in the past but people must have forgotten. The way to pronounce [doubt] is to remove the sound of the letter B. The same goes with debt."

Adibah stated that if it was up to her, she would have noted the mistakes throughout the whole speech, but as a former English teacher, she said that the speech was still acceptable since one was able to understand it despite the mistakes.

"I know that as Malaysians, English is not our first language. But I will continue to correct those who make mistakes so that we could all learn," she added.
