Emile Hirsch is going to jail for 15 days after he pleaded guilty to assaulting a female movie executive at the Sundance Film Festival.

The court was told how the 30-year-old actor put Daniele Bernfeld, an executive for Paramount Studios, in a chokehold, dragged her across a table and then put his hands around her throat during a party at the TAO club in Park City in January.

It was also said that he was slurring his words and finding difficulty balancing at the time of the assault, according to the Associated Press.

As well as the 15 days of jail time, he’ll have to pay a fine of $4750 and complete 50 hours of community service.

Part of the deal of his guilty plea means that the charge will then be taken off his record.

Bernfeld has expressed her disappointment at his punishment, saying that it ‘did not fit the crime’.

In a statement, she said that she thought she was going to die during the assault, which has caused her lasting damage.

“If a violent attack in front of a roomful of witnesses can be labeled a misdemeanour and dismissed, what of women who are assaulted while alone in hallways or bathrooms, or behind the closed doors of their own homes,” she said.

Hirsch, who went into rehab shortly after the incident, said: “I know it was completely wrong and reckless and irresponsible.

“I have no excuses for not remembering. I put those chemicals inside me.”

Hirsch has appeared in films including 'Into The Wild’, 'Killer Joe’ and 'Milk’.
